NFL WEEK 8 PICKS

Denver Broncos @ Baltimore Ravens    - Ravens Defense is not what it used to be.  Denver's defense holds Flacco to 13.  Denver by a TD at least.

Cleveland Browns @ Chicago Bears - CHicago will bounce back from that embarrassing loss to the Bengals.

New York Gians  @ Philadelphia Eagles - Here is my upset of the week.  Eagles always tough at home, Giants are a paper tiger.

St. Louis Rams @ Detroit Lions - I think the Marc Bulger  has  a good match up this week and will pass for close to 300 and 2 TD's on a really inexperienced Lion's secondary.  Rams get their first win.

San Francisco 49ers @ Indianapolis Colts - I think the Colts will pull off the win, but they face a good 49'ers team that has dropped 2 straight.  This might be closer than most people think.

Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets - Rex Ryan will not have a repeat of their previous match-up.  Jets will win at home.

Houston Texans @ Buffalo Bills - Texans have bben hot and cold, while the Bills have just been cold and warm.  This week the Texans are hot again.

Seattle Seahawks  @ Dallas Cowboys - Cowboys look to continue their win streak and keep their season alive with a win at home.

Oakland Raiders  @ San Diego Chargers - Will Oakland surprise everyone and have a repeat performance of their season opener?  I don't think so, the Chargers are starting to click and they must get this divisin win to have any chance of staying in the race in the AFC West.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans - Vince Young is starting so the Titans can decide if they keep him or go in a different directiion next yesr.  They have nothing to lose and Vince Young needs to prove he can be a starting QB in the NFL, not to mention Titans are desperately looking for their first win.  I think they get it.  Titans at home.

Carolina Panthers @ Arizona Cardinals - Cardinals are getting back to last season's form.  Their defense is playing exceptionally well and they will limit the Panthers rushing attack.  Cardinals at home.

Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers - I am sick of hearing about "Favre's return to Green Bay".  Vikings are the better team here and will pull off a win.

Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints - Atlanta has a shot to take down the undefeated Saints.  I like this macth up becuase The Saints have not really shown they can limti an opponent in the 2nd half.  They are relying on outgunning opponents.  I like the Saints to win still.

NFL WEEK 7 PICKS

I went 9-5 last week, record for the year so far, 63-27.  Toda is the 26th anniversary of the invasion of Grenada.  My house was also robbed this week.  Bastards took everything. Not really into it this week, so I am just going to post my picks and not say why.

Indianapolis at St. Louis - Colts

New England at Tampa Bay - Patriots

San Francisco at Houston - Texans

Minnesota at Pittsburgh - Steelers

San Diego at Kansas City - Chargers but Go Chiefs!  LOL.

Green Bay at Cleveland - Packers

N.Y. Jets at Oakland - Jets

Buffalo at Carolina - Panthers

Chicago at Cincinnati - Bengals

New Orleans at Miami - Saints

Atlanta at Dallas - Falcons

Arizona at N.Y. Giants - Giants

Philadelphia at Washington - Eagles

NFL WEEK 6 PICKS

Going in to week 6 I am 65-25, a few upsets last week.  I think week 6 has a clearer picture with the exception of the Giants @ Saints game and Broncos @ Chargers.

As usual, this is not against the spread and just for fun.

Carolina @ Tampa Bay - Let's face it, Tampa Bay has just not done very well this year.  I almost like them to upset a division opponent, but in the end I think the Panthers defense and running game prevail.  Panthers on the road.

Detroit @ Green Bay - Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford give this team a chance, but not when sidelined with an injury.  Packers at Lambeau.

St. Louis @ Jacksonville - Jaguars have been hot and cold all year.  But the Rams have just been cold.  Maurice Jones-Drew should have a big game here, fantasy owners of him are probably drooling at this match up.  Jaguars at home.

Baltimore @ Minnesota - This could be a potential upset but I think the home field advantage and Adrian Peterson are the edge here.  Vikings at home and "AP All Day" runs for 130 + and 2 TD's.

Houston @ Cincinnati - The Bengals have proven that they can play with anyone and Houston is giving up a lot of points.  I don't see how they can shut down the Bengals high powered passing game and Cedric Benson is leading the leage in rushing yards right now.  Bengals at home.

Kansas City @ Washington - Again, I almost like the Chiefs in an upset here, but Clinton Portis is getting on track, seems to be healthy, and the Chiefs run defense has been atrocious.  Washington at home.

NY Giants @ New Orleans - While the Giants have been decimating their opponents and are #1 in most power rankings, they have had the easiest schedule of any of the undefeated teams.  Their opponents combined record so far is 6-19.  I like the Saints defense, they made mincemeat of the Jets, and Pierre Thomas and Drew Brees are a deadly combo with that defense that likes to create turnovers.  Saints at home.

Cleveland @ Pittsburgh - Steelers have some questions to answer after Detroit played them close last week.  They need to make a statement and decimate the Browns to get some respect back in the division. Steelers at home.

Philadelphia @ Oakland - Once again this game will be blacked out locally in the Bay area and I am starting to feel sorry for Raiders fans.  Their team is in turmoil and their head coach might be going to jail.  Eagles will probably cover the 14 point spread.

Arizona @ Seattle - 2 weeks ago I would give this game to Arizona, but Matt Hasselbeck is leading this team like he has been there all season.  The Cardinals are not consistent on both sides of the ball yet.  Seattle's defense will give Kurt Warner problems.   I like the Seahawks here at home.

Tennessee @ New England - The Patriots coming off a loss are looking to establish themselves as contenders in the AFC East.   They are definately motivated to win and the Titans are quickly letting their season slip away.  No upset here, Patriots at home.

Buffalo @ NY Jets - The Bills have bigger problems than TO's mouth.  Their defense is really struggling and the offense is inconsistent.  The Jets have dropped 2 in a row and Rex Ryan is not going to let that happen again.  Jets at Home.

Chicago @ Atlanta - Trying to be objective here.  While I want the Bears to lose so Denver gets a better draft pick next year, They are dangerous.  Atlanta has too many offensive weapons and their defense can shut people down and create turnovers.  Matt Ryan is going to have a big game against a weak Bears defense.  Falcons at Home.

Denver @ San Diego - The Chargers are desperate for a win.  But their defense is giving up a lot of points and the Broncos are outscoring opponents 59-7 in the 2nd half.  The only TD they have given up in the 2nd half was to the Bengals in week 1 with :38 left in the game.      Denver can control the clock and the ball by running, and Moreno will see most of the carries with Buckhalter and Jordan spelling him.  I expect Knowshon to have a big .  The Broncos have proved they can limit the passing opportunities over the middel and defending the screen lessesing Antonio Gates and Darren Sproles effectiveness.  Denver's defense has shown they make adjustments and shut opponents down in the 2nd half.  Broncos win big on the road on Monday night.

NFL WEEK 4 PICKS

Week 3 was pretty good for me, I underestimated Brady and the Patriots, and everyone underestimated Fred Taylor. who was a big part of their success.  Just when I think Kubiak is getting the Texans going, their defense collapses again against a not very good Jaguars offense, but for MJD.  And the Lions surprised me.  I had originally picked them but changed my mind at athe last minute.  Should have gone with my gut.  Funny that in my pick'em league, I had New England, but in my blog, I picked the Falcons to win because of the injuries to the Patriots receiving corp.

So I am 38-10, going into week 4.  I am torn on a few, but will try to pick'em as I see 'em.  As usual, I don't pick against the spread, and just pick straight up winners.

Seattle  @ Indianapolis -Peyton Manning is playing with renewed fire and is tearing up defensive secondaries.  Seahawks are seriously outgunned here, Colts by a large margin.

Cincinnati @ Cleveland- The battle for Ohio is just not that interesting when it is this lopsided.  Palmer and the Bengals are on a roll right now and win easily on the road.

Baltimore @ New England- This is a tough call.  The Patriots played surprisingly well against the Falcons and Fred Taylor established enough of a running game to open up the passing game for Brady.  New Englands defense played better than I expected as well.  I almost like them to upset the Ravens, but they juts have a feeling they willlose this home game.

Detroit @ Chicago- I almost feel sorry for the Lions. They get their first win in a long time, and are going to get beat at home by the Bears.   Cutler is getting the passing game going.  Bears at home.

Oakland @  Houston- Raiders have problems.  Houston will bounce back after last weeks loss.  Texans win at home.

New York Giants @ Kansas City- This will be a beating that the Chiefs fans will want to quickly forget.  Giants roll right over the Chiefs easily.

Tennessee @ Jacksonville- Tennessee has to find a way to win this one or their playoff chances will start to quickly fade with the division quickly getting out of reach and the race for the AFC wild card will have some fierce competition this year.   The Jaguars pulled it together last week, but the Titans run defense will force the Jaguars to the air.  Titans win on the road.

Tampa Bay @ Washington- Quickly losing interest in either team this year.  But Jim Zorn might be introube if they lose another, and the Bucs are starting a QB I honestly never heard of before, in a hostile environment.  Redskins win at home.

New York Jets @ New Orleans- This will be an interesting matchup.  2 undefeated teams with one prolific offense against another tough defense.  This is a tough one to pick, but I think the Jets will lose their first game of the season at home.  The Saints defense is good enough to limit the Jets to maybe 14-17 points and  it wil not be enough to keep up with the aerial attack that Drew Brees has at his disposal.  Saints have the advantage at home.

Buffalo @ Miami- Bills get Marshaun Lynch back and strengthen their running attack.  The Dolphins are not playing well without Pennington and will lose this game.  Bills win on the road.

St. Louis @ San Francisco-  If not for a last second miracle pass from Brett Favre, the 49'ers would be 3-0 right now.  They easily beat the Rams, and maintain their division lead.

Dallas @ Denver- The Cowboys come to town with a lot of media focus on Tony Romo and Wade Phillips, who might be in trouble if they lose another game.  People are calling Denver the worst 3-0 team in the league.  Then that must make the Cowboys the worst 2-1 team in the league, because  their 2 wins come against teams that are a combined 0-6.  The Cowboys running game is severely hampered and their defense is 17th aginst the run and 26th overall.  Not nearly enough to stop Denvers runnig game and the Denver Defense is playing really tough having only surrendered 16 points all season and 1 TD.  All Denver has to do is not turn the ball over and sustain a few drives and keep the Dallas Defense on the field at that high altitude.  Denver wins at home.

San Diego @ Pittsburgh- The Steelers are reeling a bit at 1-2 and they need Palumalu back real bad.  I think they regroup this week and find a way to contain the Chargers high octane offense and pull out a must needed win on the road.  Steelers win at home.

Green Bay @ Minnesota-  The media is drooling over this game like a pack of hungry dogs.  Packers want to win this one for a lot of reasons but I think they will have a tough time doing it.  Packers defense has just not been able to consistently stop the run or the pass effectively.  Vikings  win at home.

NFL WEEK 3 PICKS

11-5 for week 2 brings me to 25-7 for the season so far.  Chicago didn't so much surprise me as Pittsburg did.  They we really missing Palumalu out there.  Romo's 3 INT meltdown cost the Cowboys there home opener.  I am actually glad I was wrong on the Bengals Packers game, gives Denver's 2-0 record a little more credibility.  Tennessee is looking at 0-2, Houston did surprise me.  And the Raiders squeeked by the Chiefs in an ugly win.

Titans @ Jets - This is a must win game for the Titans, less they fall to 0-3.  The Jets defense looks real good and Sanchez is holding his own.  Everyone said that Belicek would unravel the rookie, but it was Rex Ryan who put the hurting on Tom Brady last week.  I like the Jets.

Giants @ Buccaneers - Tampa continues to struggle while the Giants lost Justin Tuck for a few weeks. I still think the Tampa Bay offense has no answers and their defense is a shell of it's former greatness.   Ginats win on the road.

Packers @ Rams - Easy road win for Green Bay, definately start Green Bay receivers and Aaron Rodgers in Fantasy this week as he should have a big game against the Rams terrible secondary.  Packers roll on the road.

Chiefs @ Eagles - Eagles will bounce back from a good thumping by the Saints and their defense will shred the Chiefs, who may not have Bowe and are really msiing Tony Gonzales right now.  Eagles win at home.

Falcons @ Patriots - Speaking of Tony Gonzales, he gives Matt Ryan another weapon and Michael Turner should give a balanced offensive attack.  Can the Falcons defense do the same thing Buffalo and the Jets have done?  Put pressure on Brady and throw off that prolific passing game?  New England should rally at home and I see Belicek making an offensive adjustment and rushing the ball more and changing the offensive play calling to get the ball out of brady's hands quicker.  Only problem with all that is Welker, Moss and Slater are all questionable.  The Patriots wide receiver corp is severely banged up, and if they play, how effective will they be?  New England will fall to 0-3.  Falcons win in Gillette.

49ers @ Vikings - Vikings run defense is pretty good.  I think they neutralize Frank Gore and the 49ers rushing atack and I don't think they can get it done in the air.  Adrian Peterson says his back is ok and he should play.  Good test for Favre against a pretty decent San Francisco secondary.  I think Minnesota's defense is the deciding factor in this game and the offense is just good enough to get the win.  Vikings at Home.

Jaguars @ Texans - OK, I'll give Kubiak some credit, and a break.  Looks like they just struggled out of the gate in week 1, but they have some momentum coming out of week 2 and are playing at home against an anemic Jacksonville offense. Houston at home.

Redskins @ Lions - Redskins are struggling to get any continuity on offense.  They squeeked by a really bad Rams team last week.  I think Detroit will have a good game but tehir run defense is awful adn Clinton Portis should have a good game.  Redskins on the road, Lions remain winless.

Browns @ Ravens - Cleveland is really struggling to find an identity and they have a bit of a discilpline problem reported in the locker room this week.  Mangini thinks they are fine and "really starting to come together".  Maybe in the locker room they have resolved their differences, but they have a long way to go on the field.  Ravens at home.

Bears @ Seahawks - Hasselbeck is doubtful for week 3 and as much as it pains me, Cutler bounced back last week and had a good game.  Bears on the road.

Saints @ Bills - Is anyone going to be able to stop Drew Brees?  Bills are playing decent defense so far, but Pierre Thomas will be in the backfield this week and with the threat of him carrying the ball, it just opens up the passing game for the Saints.  Saints go into Buffalo and go 3-0.

Dolphins @ Chargers - Miami really had success last year against San Diego with the wildcat offense.  I don't think they will have as much success this time and San Diego is able to move the ball on the ground and in the air pretty effectively.  Dolphins defense not quite as good as last year and they will have a tough time containing the Chargers.  I like San Diego at home.

Broncos @ Raiders - JaMarcus Russell is just not the answer at QB for Oakland.  Broncos defense is playing well and they attack the ball and will put pressure on Russell.  Raiders will make crucial mistakes and penalties as usual and Orton just needs to make good decisions with the ball.  Denver goes to 3-0 and keeps 1st place in the AFC West.

Steelers @ Bengals - I think Puttsburgh is nowhere near the same team right now.  They are really strugging on pass defense over the middle without Troy Palumalu.  Bengals showed they can get that offense rolling and I think they win at home.

Colts @ Cardinals - Really torn on this one.  Cardinals played well but lost a tough game to San Francisco last week.  Colts barely pulled of a win last Monday night and are playing on a short week.  I think injuries are the difference here.  Bob Sanders and Anthony Gonzlaes are out and Dwight Freeny is questionable.  Cardinals at home.

Panthers @ Cowboys - If Romo can get it together, the Cowboys will get their first home victory.  Jake Delhomme however has had a rocky start to his 2009 season.   This could go either way. Whichever quarterback plays better will prevail, the defenses are about evenly matched.  I like the Cowboys at home.

As usual if you don't like my picks or lose your family firtune or your babies momma's grocery money betting on the games, don't blame me.  Petition your coach or GM to do a beeter job in next years draft and free agency.

NFL WEEK 2 PICKS

OK, not too shabby for week 1.  14-16,  87.5% accuracy.  Better than all the experts.  What was I thinking taking the Redskins over the Giants?  Hats off to Mark Sanchez on a great NFL debut.  Jay Cutler, why don’t you welcome the Steelers defense to town with a couple forced passes?

ST. LOUIS @ WASHINGTON - Redskins were not that great last week but the Rams were that bad.  28-10 Washington.

HOUSTON @ TENNESSEE – Is it just me or did Houston completely flounder last week?  If this is what Kubiak is bringing to the table, it will be a long season in Houston.  The Titans played tough against the reigning World Champions last week, but then mysteriously quit blitzing in the 4th quarter and OT.  The Steelers could barely get a 3rd down conversion all game, miracle they won.  It will be close but the Titans will win 21-17.

New Orleans @ Philadelphia – This is the game of the week as far as I am concerned.  Would like to give the edge to the Eagles at home and their defense looked great last week even without Brian Dawkins, but I am chalking up half their points to Jake Delhomme’s  4 picks.   Drew Brees is not going to throw 4 INTs and give the Eagles great field position and points off of turnovers.  McNaab is not 100% and is going to play with a cracked rib.  Saints by 10 points.  Note:  9/20/09 10:30 AM MST - McNaab will sit, Kolb starts, Doesn't matter, still Saints by 10.

New England @ New YorkTom Brady stood tall in the pocket and threw 2 late 4th quarter TD’s to win the game for the Patriots.  Outstanding performance and he was not timid of the knee at all with pressure all around him.  Key factor here is the Patriots run defense.  Thomas Jones chewed up 107 yards and rushed for 2 TD’s against the Texans last week.  Patriots only gave up 90 yards but Buffalo was missing Marshaun Lynch real bad last week.  I think the key to this game will be turnovers.  If the Jets can establish a dominant running game early, and play mistake free football, I like them to beat New England on home turf in a close game.  If Sanchez is forced to air it out to come from behind, it could be a huge reality check for the rookie.  Jets by 3.

Oakland @ Kansas City– The Raiders looked pretty impressive last Monday night against the Chargers.  But in true Raider fashion they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory once again.  Or did the referees do it for them?  Either way, their defense looked soft late and could not stop the Chargers impressive passing game, and Darren Sproles.  Which the Chiefs have neither of, passing game or Sproles.  If Matt Cassell plays, and can connect with Bowe, they could keep it close, as I expect the Raiders to make some mistakes in Arrowhead because it is a tough place to play.  Chiefs by a FG.

Arizona @ JacksonvilleCardinals have struggled to get anything going in the pre-season and week 1 against the 49’ers.  But the Cardinals defense and the Jaguars lack of a pass rush are the key factors here.  Arizona by 7.

Cincinnnati @ Green Bay – Experts are over thinking this one.  Bengals looked a little rusty.  They are going into Green Bay.  Lambeau field is a tough place to play.  Green Bay has a balanced offense and defense.  Packers by 10

Minnesota @ Detroit – Favre won’t have to do much more than hand the ball off this week and complete a few short passes for first downs occasionally.  Peterson might get even more than 200 yards this week.  Vikings by 13.

Carolina @ Atlanta – Lots of pressure on Jake Delhomme to get a win on the road.  Even though Carolina won this road game last year, this year the Falcons get the edge on their new division rivals.  Matt Ryan has a breakout game in the Falcons home opener.  Falcons by 10.

Seattle @ San Francisco – Will Matt Hasselback re-emerge as a top tier QB this season?  Maybe, but they need to go into San Francisco and beat a tough team and their coach Mike Singletary has them believing in themselves right now.  I like the Niners by a FG.

Tampa Bay @ BuffaloBills moved the ball at will last week and Edwards passed for 212 and 2 TD’s.  Tampa is struggling on offense.  I like the Bills by 6.

San Diego @ Baltimore – Chargers are on a short week and have to go on the road.   Rivers and Sproles impressed me last week but LT did not.  The Ravens defense let the Chiefs get a few by the corners last week.  Chargers by aTD. Note:9/20/09 10 AM MST - Chargers lost their NT Jamal Williams for the season.  That gives the edge to the Ravens running game, Ravens by 3.

Cleveland @ Denver – If Denver continues on improving week by week as we have seen, they should have a good game.  Defense needs to play all 60 minutes and Orton needs to have better pocket presence and make good decisions. I think the Browns run defense is soft and we should see Buckhalter and Moreno go for a combined 150.  Hillis will not see much action on offense because Spencer Larsen is hurt.  Coach will use Peyton on Special Teams and FB occasionally for blocking.  If the Broncos can get pressure on Quinn consistently, Broncos win by 7.

Pittsburgh @ Chicago – Think Jay Cutler was frustrated last week, wait until that Steeler pass rush storms through the weak Chicago O-line.  Bears defense played a good game last week, but Urlacher is out for the year.  Steelers need to get the ground game established.  If they get pressure on Cutler they should get plenty of opportunities.  Steelers are also coming off a long 10 day rest. Steelers by 6.

New York Giants @ Dallas – Is this the Year Tony Romo will not fade in the stretch?  I don’t know, it’s a long season.  I picked the Giants to lose last week and I am picking them  to lose again this week.  Unless they get a lucky bounce off the scoreboard, oh wait, it’s a do-over?  What?  Cowboys by 7.

Indianapolis @ MiamiColts passing game is short a good receiver this week in Anthony Gonzales.  Their defense is not the quickest either.   Expect Chad Pennington to have a good game and win by 6.

As ususal, Morpheus reserves the right to change his picks up until game time and if you don't like Morpheus's picks, petition your GM or coach to do a better job in next years draft.
